05 / PRECISION TUBES & PIPES
Precision Tubes & Pipes
High-purity seamless and welded stainless steel tubing for semiconductor, pharmaceutical, instrumentation, and critical fluid systems — supplied to your exact dimensional, material, and surface-finish specification.
PRECISION TUBING & PIPING
Precision Tubes & Pipes
Precision tubes and pipes are seamless and welded clean stainless steel tube, manufactured to exceptionally tight dimensional tolerances and finished to a specified internal surface grade. They are the standard choice for high-purity gas and fluid lines in semiconductor, pharmaceutical, food-grade, and instrumentation service, where cleanliness and corrosion resistance matter as much as dimension. PCX sources precision tubing from qualified international manufacturers and supplies it to your exact specification.

SURFACE FINISHES
Internal Surface Finish
For precision tube it is the internal surface — the bore — that defines the product. The bore is finished to a specified grade, from a pickled matte surface for general process lines to a bright, mirror-smooth electropolished finish for ultra-high-purity gas and pharmaceutical service. A smoother, passivated bore means lower particle entrapment, easier cleaning, and better corrosion resistance — which is why the finish grade is specified alongside the material and dimension.

Contact UsSURFACE FINISH GRADES
Surface Finishes — AP · BA · MP · EP

AP
As Pickled
Pickled & annealed bore — General process and structural lines

BA
Bright Annealed
Smooth, bright bore — Cleaner fluid contact, instrument gas

MP
Mechanically Polished
Low-roughness polished bore — High-purity gas and liquid lines

EP
Electropolished
Mirror electropolished & passivated bore — Ultra-high-purity semiconductor & pharma
The finish grade sets the degree of polishing and passivation applied to the internal surface. Specify the grade your process requires.
MANUFACTURING PROCESS
From Mother Pipe to Finished Grade
Each tube progresses through a controlled sequence of forming, surface treatment, and cleaning steps. The final internal surface grade — AP, BA, MP, or EP — determines how far along the polishing and passivation sequence each tube is taken before inspection and packaging.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between AP, BA, MP, and EP surface finish?
They are four internal surface grades of the same precision tube, from least to most refined. AP (As Pickled) is a pickled and annealed bore for general process lines. BA (Bright Annealed) is a smooth, bright bore for cleaner fluid contact. MP (Mechanically Polished) gives a low-roughness bore for high-purity gas and liquid. EP (Electropolished) is a mirror-finish, electropolished and passivated bore for ultra-high-purity semiconductor and pharmaceutical service. Specify the grade your process requires.
What is the difference between seamless and welded precision tube?
Seamless tube is drawn from a solid billet with no weld seam, giving uniform wall structure for higher-pressure and the most critical high-purity lines; we supply it OD 1/16" to 450A. Welded clean tube is formed and welded from strip, then cold rolled and finished; it covers larger diameters up to 800A economically. Both are supplied in 304/316/316L and in any of the AP/BA/MP/EP finishes.
Which grade and finish should I choose for semiconductor or pharmaceutical service?
High-purity semiconductor and ultra-high-purity gas lines typically call for SUS 316L in an electropolished (EP) finish — the V-1, V-2, V-3 high-purity grades. Pharmaceutical, food-grade, and sanitary systems commonly use 316L in BA or EP. Standard clean process and instrumentation lines are usually 304 or 316 in AP or BA. Send us the service and any applicable standard and we will confirm the grade and finish.
What is an electropolished (EP) tube used for?
An electropolished tube has its internal surface electrochemically smoothed to a mirror finish and passivated, giving the lowest roughness and best corrosion resistance of the four grades. It is used for ultra-high-purity gas and chemical delivery in semiconductor fabrication and for pharmaceutical and biotech process lines where surface cleanliness is critical.
What is a sanitary or high-purity stainless tube?
Sanitary tube is clean stainless tube — usually 316L in a BA or EP finish — for pharmaceutical, biotech, food, and beverage systems where the bore must be smooth, crevice-free, and easy to clean. It is the same precision tube family described here, specified with a hygienic surface finish and to your dimensional standard.
What materials and sizes are available?
Standard grades are TP/SUS 304, 304L, 316, and 316L, plus V-1/V-2/V-3 high-purity 316L. Seamless clean pipe runs OD 1/16" to 450A and welded clean pipe 1/2" to 800A, cold drawn or cold rolled. Wall thickness, length, and end finish are supplied to your specification, to ASTM, JIS, DIN, EN, or customer standards.
